the redesign company is ten years old. we have been figuring it out as we go for a decade. it has been the hardest and the best work of our lives. and now, finally, the dog days are over. a new partner, a new website, a new blog, a new shop, a new time has come. time to celebrate. so we took off to utila, a tiny island off the coast of honduras, with jacqui and trip...
the front porch
where we spent much of our time AND the name of our new shop...

utila is remote, air conditioning is iffy, sand flies are no joke, and everybody dives and apparently snorkeling is for weenies. would anybody really come to a week away for couples there? not sure how many couples would still be speaking to each other after a few hours in the san pedro sula airport. but we LOVE adventure and as jacqui says....
i chose utila because i love to travel, i love places that are authentic and not touristy. where it doesn't matter if you have or you have not. where the beauty is God made, not man made. where despite their lack of means, the people are happy and healthy and thriving. and have been since the 1600's!
the people we met there...and all their crazy assortment of island friends, were lovely and loving. as were our neighbors. like people you want to be your family. and the people all loved on them. everywhere we went with them it was a universal love. they take care of their own whether they were born there or ended up there. doesn't matter. they say if someone on the island has to have surgery and can't afford it, everyone collects money to help. or if someone needs a house and can't afford one, the community gets together and builds them one. it is really beautiful. and the reason i would go back.
we went to utila to celebrate. we come home reminded that we were meant to live for so much more than keeping up with the joneses and climbing ladders. we come home resolved to help people love better and live better for another ten years, at least. we love utila and each and every person that opened their hearts and opened our eyes, but yeah, we totally do love coming home too. hehehe...as seth godin says,
instead of wondering when your next vacation is, maybe you should set up a life that you don't need to escape from.
