THANK YOU, dear people! thank you for your BIG love and generosity. when we started a fundraising campaign to make a bedroom for a little boy with severe microcephaly a week or so ago, we never imagined we'd meet half of our goal in only one day!! jalaybrian's grandparents are overwhelmed with gratitude. we are so happy to be on this mission together with you. answers to your questions and a little singalong... why not just get one of those stair lift thingy's? jalaybrian has no control over his body. medical equipment needs to be located near him. single floor living is safest and will greatly improve the quality of his life. our garage redesign will include leveling the garage floor to the existing floor so there is a smooth transition. his grandma and grandpa are people who make do and are doing the best they can, but the hard work of caring for their grandson is getting more difficult every day. won't insurance or a grant cover this? all other options for funding have been exhausted because our solution is literally outside the box of the house. our garage redesign will be adding square footage to their home. are you scared you won't reach your goal? no. we are uniquely qualified to meet this specific need. redesigning a garage is the very thing our little company was almost famous for. hehe... funny the way that is. we will help this family no matter what it costs us personally. we believe we were made to do so. and because every time we say "yes" to making the world a better place before we have the funds, the people rise up. we have seen the power and the generosity of we the people too many times to be scared now... never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it's the only thing that ever has. - margaret mead so, you're really not scared? we are really not scared about the funding. but i am scared all the time about what people think. i wish i could let that go. i'm scared that i'm annoying people. everything in me wants to just do this quietly and anonymously by ourselves. but putting it out there means that others can join us on our mission and together we can create the world we want. people from every political persuasion have come together to share in the contributing and we will all share in the celebrating. we are unified in this. we are better together. you know how sometimes something comes along and you just know down deep in your soul, you are supposed to do it? something that feels bigger than you? and kind of impossible? you might call it the universe speaking, or a calling from God, or giving to the greater good... it's all the same. and we have to listen to that still, small voice inside of us. we gotta give when the spirit says give. when i met jalaybrian, unexpected tears fell. and i've learned to listen... whenever you find tears in your eyes, especially unexpected tears, it is well to pay the closest attention. they are not only telling you something about the secret of who you are, but more often than not God is speaking to you through them of the mystery of where you have come from and is summoning you to where, if your soul is to be saved, you should go next. - frederick buechner ok, but what happens if you don't reach your goal? we move forward. tim and i will fund the rest if necessary. because not too long ago, things were really hard for us too. we know what if feels like to work hard and still need help. we promised ourselves that when we succeeded at making our dreams come true we would spend our lives helping other people make their dreams come true. when you've worked hard, and done well, and walked through the doorway of opportunity... you do not slam it shut behind you... you reach back, and you give other folks the same chances that helped you succeed. - michelle obama i thinks it's nice, what you're doing, but i already give elsewhere. our hearts want what our hearts want. we don't pick and choose what moves our souls. we have to follow our own heart and soul. we have go where our unexpected tears take us. some of us save abandoned fur babies. some of us provide shoes for the barefoot. some of us start churches for people to gather together. some of us make clean drinking water possible. some of us walk out of the darkness for suicide prevention. some of us help orphans in bolivia. some of us run marathons to raise funds for cancer research. some of us redesign a garage for a little boy with microcephaly... the world needs all of us. it's the giving that matters. we are at our best when we use our gifts to make the world a better place. tim and i have been searching for ways to give directly to people in need. this is our mission. we all must follow our own calling. if your mission is different than our mission, let's celebrate all of the missions and hug it out when we see each other at the grocery store. give when the spirit says give and peace be with you, dear brothers and sisters. our boys grew up singing this with us... all together now... when does construction start? january. we will blog before photos, the progress, and the BIG REVEAL so you see what you gave and know how much it mattered. how do i help? with so much love and gratitude, xo... tim and christina for all Jalaybrian needs our help. He was born with microcephaly, a rare life-long neurological condition with no cure. He will never walk or talk or climb stairs, his brain is underdeveloped. He will never give hugs or say thank you's out loud, But you can't miss the light and love in his eyes. Jalaybrian is 4 years old and lives with his Grandmother and Grandfather. They live in a cute little house with an attached garage and upstairs bedrooms. Every day and every night his grandparents carry their growing grandson up and down the stairs. There is no room on the first floor for his bed and all of his medical equipment. We have an idea that will change the world for Jalaybrian and Grandma and Grandpa. We need your help to make it happen. Remember when we turned our garage into a teen cave for our boys? before... after... Well, a big Hollywood producer found our garage redesign online and called. Hollywood called. This was a dream come true sort of situation for us. He wanted our family to do a show redesigning garages. He wanted to make Charlotte the new Waco and Tim and me the new Chip and Joanna. We did the interviews and sent the photos and waited. And waited. And waited... This is how it goes. We have been close before. I am the queen of coming close. They never reject you out loud, they just never call you back. In the middle of the waiting, we heard Jalaybrian's story. While Tim and I were waiting to hear if we would redesign garages for HGTV, Grandma and Grandpa were waiting to hear if funding would come through to redesign their garage for their grandson. It didn't. Tears fell as we realized, our dream is ridiculously small. Who cares if we are on tv! Not us. Not one bit. Because every day life is getting harder and harder for this family and we can do something about it. Our new dream is to make the world more beautiful for ALL people. Please help us redesign their garage into a bedroom for Jalaybrian. He loves music and the color red. He is happiest when you hold him and talk to him. Black and white books are his favorite. He sees best when objects are against a dark background, like stars in the sky. Let's make sure Grandma doesn't have to carry her grandson up and down stairs anymore. Let's paint the galaxy on his ceiling! Let's get a comfortable recliner so when Grandpa holds him they can look up and see stars. Let's level the floor and construct a real room with heat and air conditioning. Let's get him a bookshelf filled with all of the black and white books! Let's make the hard work of caring for Jalaybrian easier and happier. Let's change the world for this beautiful family. Grandma and Grandpa are dedicated to making their grandson's life as sweet as possible. They are people who see the beauty in everything and make do with what they have. They are selfless. They are generous. They are givers. Just like you. Every time we say yes to helping people before we know where the money will come from, you save the day. You stood hand in hand with the broken-hearted and whispered, "you are not alone" with every dollar you gave to help us make a home for victims of domestic violence in Charlotte a few years ago. You know we get what we give so we know you will rise up and save the day again. Every dollar matters. No donation is too small. $5 buys a black and white book that will bring happiness to a little boy in need. We will donate all of our time, we need YOU to please donate to cover the cost of construction and furnishings. Unlike our own low- budget garage redesign, we will construct a fully finished bedroom for Jalaybrian. Every penny donated above and beyond the actual cost of the project will go directly to Jalaybrian's grandparents. THANK YOU for making this happen, you world changers, you. Here's a breakdown of the costs: $10,000 - construction $800 - recliner $350 - dresser $300 - tv $300 - cool light fixture $300 - happy art $300 - mobile and fun toys $150 - bookshelf $150 - floor pillows $100 - black and white books $100 - cozy sheepskin rug $80 - wireless baby monitor $30 - wireless speaker for music $20 - sound machine $13,280 - total We will blog everything so you see what you give and so you know how much it matters. click here to donate
