instead of, "do what you love," perhaps the more effective mantra for the entrepreneur, the linchpin and maker of change might be, "love what you do." If we can fall in love with serving people, creating value, solving problems, building valuable connections and doing work that matters, it makes it far more likely we're going to do important work. - seth godin we came to austin to do important work and maybe a little bit of boot shopping... we quit everything to start over and "do what we love" for a living 10 years ago. we learned you have to love what you do in order to do what you love. most of us do hard work that is not the slightest bit highfalutin. right? people think we shop and chop pillows all the live long day. hehehe... what we really do is... decide where all the stuff should go move the wicked heavy stuff help people let go of the notsogreat stuff search for the cool stuff in hot attics iron and steam the wrinkly stuff wire, measure, and hang the stuff on the walls assemble the stuff with bazillion parts organize the stuff try not to get sweat on the stuff clean the stuff take the garbagey stuff to the dump vacuum under and around the stuff take and edit photos of the stuff write about the stuff squeeze into tiny spaces for the sake of the stuff... we gotta do the hard work if we wanna do the important work.
when our hard work is done, people come home and see the beauty in their stuff. peace and contentment follow. we already have everything we need to live a beautiful life. glennon doyle melton calls this awakening of gratitude for what we already have "wearing perspectacles" i guess that makes us perspectacle prescribers.
