our notsobig back yard is a mess. the trees are sobignow that everything under them is in full shade and suffering. we keep moving plants and buying string lights and lanterns to try to make it look better. it's not working and the place that should be our happy place has become the reason we have not invited people over in a while. we need help. so we called our brilliant friend and back yard expert, brandon morris, owner of mint landscaping, to come do the hard work needed to make our notsobig back yard our happy place all over again. hehehe... you would think we would know better. but we all do this, don't we? we move things and buy things that cost us time and money and get us no closer to our happy place. sometimes, we just need help... all their things, just redesigned... how to hide tv cords... maybe next time, walk past the aisle of perpetual temptation at target.
one more pretty lamp or vase is not going to make your home your happy place. and go get yourself a pair of cute shoes instead. cute shoes are better for your soul than cute vases. tweet that. by christina britt lewis photography by angela statzer they are having a party this weekend. parties motivate us to finish things, don't they? making your home feel finished with the things you already have is our very favorite thing to do... all things they already have. all things they have collected over the years. all things that make their house their home... we used to spend a lot of time searching for something centerpiecey for people.
but time and experience have taught us that you almost always already have something fabulous. we found these sweetgrass baskets holding toys in the playroom. and then we happy danced and gave thanks for the fabulousness... these beautiful people went from a family of three to a family of six when they welcomed home two brothers and a sister from a land far away. while they were half way around the world, we made this little bathroom work for four little people... they gave hope to the hopeless.
they gave a home to the homeless. we never hoped a family would love coming home more. peace... christina and all by christina britt lewis photography by angela statzer...we finished this redesign in the dark, yet she got the shot. amazing. we love to give people a comfortable place to put their feet up and read a book by good lighting in a bedroom. big people bedrooms and little people bedrooms. it's nice to have a place to go that is all your own for some solitude. reading nooks... these people and their story moved our souls and when angela's soul gets moved she creates beautiful things. she custom made the art, owls, and hearts below for this beloved little one... angela is an artist and owner of button bird designs.
angela's blog is such a happy place. and YOU can find adorable owls and other fun things at her etsy shop. local people can find her stuff at this fun shop in dilworth too. she's kind of a big deal, although she treats everyone else as if they are the big deal. tim and i are so grateful that you get to see her work here too. xo.. CBL her redesign was our most popular. like ever. she left the best review on houzz. she was happy that we were able to take her "vague and clumsily articulated thoughts" and translate them into exactly what she wanted. that is the thing we do best. we are so not interior designers. hehehe...we love being "vague thought translators". and we love the artistic freedom you give us when you let us kick you out for the day, get barefoot, turn up the avett brothers, and make art. but we also totally get that sometimes it is more fun for you when we give you a sneak peek... her fabulous super hero art and her funky rug were our inspiration for this teenager's room. she's fun and funky with fabulous taste in shoes. she's a black belt who appreciates a spectacular chandelier. i want to be her when i grow up. here is the inspiration board angela made for her... but ikea can break your heart. the thing you go there to get is rarely there. you have to go to ikea knowing you will redesign your redesign a time or two before you make it to the cinnamon rolls. the charlotte observer interviewed me about how to shop ikea without your heart breaking when ikea first came to charlotte. this time, they did not have the butterfly pillow or the window treatments. but they had the chandelier. hallelujah, they had the chandelier! we don't get sad at ikea anymore. after 10 years we know... plan b trumps plan a her collections in those vases we all have way up high in a kitchen cabinet... if you know ikea, you know that chandelier was the biggest, hardest puzzle to put together you ever did see. i would still be there cursing the millions of pieces all over the floor if not for the brilliant and beautiful, kelly. don't you love how she matches the room? we totally planned that. hehehe... happy friday, beautiful people! big hugs and sloppy kisses... christina angela kelly uncle bill (who just rolled his eyes when we asked him to get his feet in the shot) |
