hanging around with cole and camden on a sunny sunday afternoon at menemsha beach on martha's vineyard humming the words of edward sharp and the magnetic zeros...home is whenever i'm with you... we decided (despite what we said before...ahem...) that seth godin was wrong when he said... instead of wondering when your next vacation is, maybe you should set up a life that you don't need to escape from. after the BIG bad ugly on thursday, we wanted to escape. the plans we made months before to go to the vineyard suddenly felt divinely orchestrated. leaving home reminded us that what makes our home peaceful is not because... we clean before we go away so we come home to fresh linens and made beds. we have a place for our keys and sunglasses so they rarely get lost. we spend moolah on weekends away and not on more stuff... our home is peaceful because of the people. so before we talk about linens, keys, and using what you have... please make things right with your people. none of the rest matters if things are not right with your people. 'cause see...the thing is, seth godin totally knows what he is talking about. and we are completely aware that our problems are small and suburban. all together now...*eye roll* so back to the life we set up that we don't actually need to escape from. the lovers of the light keep reminding us of frederick buechner's words... peace is not so much the absence of struggle, but the presence of love. and despite our small suburban problems, we did love coming home. this is one day of a 31 day series about living in a peaceful home.
