instead of, "do what you love," perhaps the more effective mantra for the entrepreneur, the linchpin and maker of change might be, "love what you do." If we can fall in love with serving people, creating value, solving problems, building valuable connections and doing work that matters, it makes it far more likely we're going to do important work. - seth godin we came to austin to do important work and maybe a little bit of boot shopping... we quit everything to start over and "do what we love" for a living 10 years ago. we learned you have to love what you do in order to do what you love. most of us do hard work that is not the slightest bit highfalutin. right? people think we shop and chop pillows all the live long day. hehehe... what we really do is... decide where all the stuff should go move the wicked heavy stuff help people let go of the notsogreat stuff search for the cool stuff in hot attics iron and steam the wrinkly stuff wire, measure, and hang the stuff on the walls assemble the stuff with bazillion parts organize the stuff try not to get sweat on the stuff clean the stuff take the garbagey stuff to the dump vacuum under and around the stuff take and edit photos of the stuff write about the stuff squeeze into tiny spaces for the sake of the stuff... we gotta do the hard work if we wanna do the important work.
when our hard work is done, people come home and see the beauty in their stuff. peace and contentment follow. we already have everything we need to live a beautiful life. glennon doyle melton calls this awakening of gratitude for what we already have "wearing perspectacles" i guess that makes us perspectacle prescribers. by christina britt lewis photography by angela statzer stop buying stuff. reject retail therapy. ignore the aisle of perpetual temptation at target. most of us have everything we already need to make our house our home... a better lamp is not the secret to a beautiful home, a better PLACED lamp is. so when you are feeling all notgoodenough skip the store and shop your home start by emptying the room of everything but the furniture... place your furniture so that you can easily see and hear the people you love the real people not the tv people only put back... stuff you love stuff that tells your story stuff that makes you feel all warm and happy inside give away whatever is left
donate therapy trumps retail therapy so hop in the car and go straight to goodwill gotta feeling you are gonna love coming home xo... christina for all when i walked in her home i think i may have offered her a job. she has impeccable taste, makes her own window treatments, and feels all kindred spirity. i think i may have tried to convince her she didn't need us, but she convinced us right back that she did. 'cause the thing is... she didn't love coming home. so we helped her love what she already had all over again by rethinking, recycling, repurposing, rearranging, and redesigning... their little people are a hoot and a half hehehe... look what she made with an ikea frame and some fabric and spray paint i mean, seriously. see what i mean? what we did with that authentic cart coffee table tomorrow
happy wednesday, beautiful people xo... christina for all kelly kicked these big boy bedrooms out of the park.
can't wait to show you the play room she tackled too. ;-) xo... christina for all |
